Arizona’s elementary school teachers are the worst paid in the nation. Nearly half of all teachers leave within 3 years of
starting. College tuition remains out of reach for Arizona’s working families while 7 out of 10 jobs in 2020 will require a
post-secondary degree. Arizona’s budget continues to shrink as Republicans in the legislature enact yet more tax
credits. Prisons continue to gobble up a tenth of our budget. Massachusetts, not Arizona with its 300 days of sunshine,
is ranked the #1 state for solar power.
This is why I am running for re-election -- to turn this picture around and make Arizona a leader in education, clean
energy and good jobs.
I have so many of you to thank for voting me into office in 2016. As a member of the House Environment and Judiciary
committees, I introduced legislation to fund our public schools, expand career and technical education, reduce college
debt, and promote clean energy.
My efforts were recognized by the Children’s Action Alliance, which gave me a 100% score in their 2017 Legislative
Report Card, by the Sierra Club, which gave me an “A+” in their 2017 Environmental Report Card, and by the League of
Arizona Cities and Towns, which bestowed on me their Friend of Cities and Towns Award.
But there is so much more work that needs to be done. And the Trump Administration is making things that much
worse for our region by insisting upon building a wall to separate us from our closest trading partner, sending thousands
of our promising young people into the shadows by removing DACA protections, and slashing the funds EPA channels to
the states to protect our air and water.
Arizona must grab the reigns and lead by example. I want to help turn Arizona around. That is why I am running for re-
election to the State House in 2018. I hope you will join me for my 2018 Campaign Kick-Off, Sept. 25 th , 5:30 – 7 pm at
2040 E. 5 th Street here in Tucson.
